When dryness is severe enough, your doctor may recommend the use of thicker lubricants called “ointments.” Dry eye ointments are similar to a “Vaseline” type material.
Dry eye ointments are very helpful for severe dry eyes. Ointments are typically recommended for use at bedtime due to the fact that the vision is blurred for a period of time after application to the eye. In more severe dry eye cases, your doctor may suggest use of ointment during the day time as well.
