Southland Eye was actually started in 1955 by Dr. Sol Rocke, and was at that time called Rocke Optometrists. Dr. Rocke’s first practice was at 63rd and King Drive in Chicago. He moved from Chicago to the south suburbs in the late 60’s and opened his new office in Cherry Creek Plaza in Homewood, then moved to 183rd and Kedzie.
Dr. Lipschultz purchased the practice from Dr. Rocke in 1986, and converted the name to Southland Eye Associates. The office outgrew the Homewood location in just a few years, and moved to our urrent locations at 19950 S. Governors Highway in Olympia Fields. Dr. Lipschultz’ wife, Dr. Sue Cotter, also provided much needed specialty care for children with vision disorders, while she was also a professor at the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Cotter took a position at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton in 1997, California, and Dr. Lipschultz became a commuter husband!
Through those years our office has been at the forefront of vision care to the community. We strive to stay on the cutting edge of new developments in contact lenses, children’s vision care, and low vision technology. We invest in keeping our testing technology at the forefront, allowing us to provide the best vision care possible!
